Is it normal to resent my baby??

So you’ve done it. You’ve housed and nurtured a tiny little human inside of your body for 9-10 months. You’ve dreamed and prayed that this time would finally come, and now here it is. So why do you feel a disconnect  from your baby? Why don’t you feel how you imagined you would? You love your new baby so much but the sound of them crying at 3 am makes you want to jump on the next train out of town., but why???  In honor of mental health awareness month I want to touch on the topic of postpartum depression.

Let’s look at the definition first off. Postpartum depression is defined as depression suffered by a mother following child birth, typically arising from the combination of hormonal changes, psychological adjustment to motherhood and fatigue. Most people when they think of PPD they think of the worst. It's not always that a mother with this disorder necessarily "hates" her baby. It could be as simple as having a breakdown because an article of clothing no longer fits. For example, when my oldest Landon was born I remember one day I took out an outfit to put on. I tried it on and it didn't fit!!! I cried and cried, and felt like my life was over. I thought "My body is destroyed and it's all because of this baby"!!! Eventually I got over it, and could eventually fit into my old clothes, but for some it isn't so simple or that easy. For some it's is extremely difficult to come to terms with the fact that your body may never be the same, this little baby that you love so much just wont stop crying and you've done everything possible to soothe them, I'm here to let you know It will be ok. It's perfectly fine to admit that you need help, that you feel that you should just automatically know what to do and you don't.

So you're running on fumes basically and baby is just crying and crying, you've fed them, there diaper is clean, you've tried rocking them, pacing the floor with them and they still just wont stop. Walk away!! Put baby down in a safe place and walk into another room for a while. Take a time out and regroup. You can't help the situation while you're on 100.

Ask for help. When you're spouse comes home hand that baby off. Go for a ride, go walk around Walmart, (if any of you see me walking around Walmart at midnight you'll know why) lol. You may feel like now that baby is here you're sole responsibility is to take care of them 24/7, but guess what?? If you don't take care of yourself first mentally you can't take care of that precious baby properly. You may be reading this part wondering "ok I'm a single parent, and don't have help''. If that's the case and you have to have your baby around you all the time, still get out of the house. Grab the diaper bag, the stroller, and head to the park, take a walk around the neighborhood, you'll be surprised how much you and baby will enjoy a different scenery.

There are always other options, then just sitting there feeling hopeless. Your baby needs the best you possible.

People check on your friends and family that just had babies, they may look fine on the outside, but under the surface they may be struggling.

New Baby? First time mom? This one's for you.

Are you a new mom, about to be a mom, or have a new baby? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then this one is for you. As many of you know I recently had another baby.  Mr. Jace Paul. He's been a complete angel, but before he came I struggled with wrapping my head around how I was going to be a mother to four children at a time. So I started researching what I like to call "my little shortcuts". I found a few items that are helping us out tremendously.

PopYum Anti-Colic Formula Making/Mixing/Dispenser Baby Bottles
Okay Ya'll this has to be my most favorite baby item. When looking for shortcuts I needed something that would make traveling, and being on the go with multiple children a little easier. This is definitely it. These bottles are also a breeze at night. (I know I'm not the only parent who's waken up for a 3 am feeding practically knocking over a whole can of formula). With these bottles the formula is already in the bottle, being held separately from the water by a plastic agitator that releases when you squeeze the sides of the bottle. Squeeze, shake, and feed that's it!!!! I know my little one is a lot happier not having to wait for mom and dad to mix a bottle for him.

Natural & Breathable My Honey Wrap Lightweight Baby Carrier Sling
This item is a must have, especially with multiple children, or if you have a baby like mine that loves to be under mommy. I use this one when out and about, especially shopping. Unless you lift weights everyday I'm sure no one enjoys lifting on a heavy car seat whenever they have to go somewhere. I also love it because I can get things done around the house even when Jace wants my attention. It is super comfortable for you and baby. Wearing your baby throughout the day also eliminates excessive crying in infant babies. In 1986 a study was conducted by RG Barr Pediatrics that investigated the links between a reduction in “normal” crying when babies were carried more frequently during the day. It concluded that increased carrying was linked with a reduction in crying in infants in the first three months of life. That sounds amazing in my book!

Wide Open Designed Baby Diaper Bag

When looking for a diaper bag I wanted something that wasn't super heavy and bulky. I saw similar bags on a website I found on Instagram and they were more expensive than I wanted to pay for a diaper bag. Then I stumbled across the exact same bag but more in my budget. (Don't we all love a better deal) lol. So I purchased this bag and as soon as I saw it, I fell in love. It looks stylish, the quality of it is amazing, and I didn't have to break the bank for it. It holds everything I need for baby and myself. It also has a zipper in the back so you can access items at the bottom of the bag without taking everything out of it. If your looking for a chic diaper bag, that isn't bulky with tons of space then this is definitely the one for you.

I hope you enjoyed this article on a few of my favorite baby items, leave me a comment below on what your favorite items are.

There's what in the toothpaste??

Do we actually know what's going in our bodies on a daily basis? Absolutely not! But it doesn't hurt to find out. You'll be surprised at how many brands that we normally use have harmful ingredients in them. Take fluoride for example, it is found is toothpaste, but did you know that fluoride is linked to some cases of kidney problems, bone disorders, and even acne. (now who wants that), I sure don't. Not for me or my family. Fluoride has also been a topic in brain development studies as well. In 2017, a report was published suggesting that exposure to fluoride before birth could lead to poorer cognitive outcomes in the future. The researchers measured fluoride levels in 299 women during pregnancy and in their children between ages 6 and 12 years old. Higher levels of fluoride were associated with lower scores on IQ test. Now what are the odds of that? Recently I made a healthy lifestyle switch to a fluoride-free toothpaste for my family. We use the brand Hello, and we absolutely love it. Hello toothpaste is a natural, vegan, fluoride-free option that leaves your teeth feeling clean and fresh. My kids love the watermelon flavor (it tastes like candy they say lol). Hey that's fine with me, they love to brush their teeth and I feel great about them using it. It's a WIN WIN!!!
If you want to make the switch and try a fluoride-free toothpaste that still does what it's supposed to do I'll leave the link to purchase.

Meet and Great

Hey guys!!! I'm so happy you all decided to come and visit my blog. This is something very new to me and also a learning process (so bear with me lol). I'm very excited to embark on this new blogging journey and I hope you all stick around for great tips on lots of different topics. Well I'm going to keep this intro somewhat short for you guys so here goes... My name is Karmeka I'm a 28 year old mother of four beautiful children (Landon 5, Dorien 6, London 3, and Jace six weeks). I am married to the love of my life (Jorey) you may see me mention their names sometime so it's good to get familiar now lol. As of now I am a stay at home mom, and I'm loving every second of being home with my children. Our lifestyle may be very similar to a lot of yall's  (another reason for creating the blog). We women especially mommies need a sounding board for our issues, ideas, complaints, accomplishments etc. I want you to feel like this is the place to do so. Well my beautiful people if I still have your attention thanks so much for visiting, I hope you come back and visit.
